The walk will begin at the small village Horton-in-Ribblesdale, North Yorkshire and from there will take us on a circular route through the Pennine range, encircling the head of the valley of the River Ribble in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The 3 Peaks we will undertake are Pen-y-ghent (694 metres - 2,276 feet), Whernside (736 metres - 2,415 feet) and Ingleborough (723 metres 2,372 feet).
The purpose of this challenge is to keep fit but more importantly to raise funds for a local cause, Evergreen Primary School in Bishop Auckland, County Durham. This is a mixed day school for children from the age of 2 years up to 11 years, the school specialises in teaching children that suffer from severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties as well as autism and many other physical, linguistic and behavioural disorders.
Since the school opened in 2005 their main focus has been to continually work towards providing the best and most suitable learning environment for the children, this is where we can help. The funds we raise will help support the schools facility & equipment investment plans that include;
- Investment in Playground apparatus including a wheelchair swing and bikes, these will help develop and improve the children’s physical interaction during playtime.
- There are plans to build a bug house and Tipi within the grounds to provide more hands on learning within Science, History and Geography classes.
- Revamp of the ICT suite to integrate a library area and create an environment that incorporates more visual & auditory elements.
